The Canadian National 13-15 Synchro Team will return home with a bronze medal after a stellar performance in the team final event at the 2009 Comen Cup in Belgrade, Serbia today.
Led by Head Coach Chantal Vallieres and Assistant Coaches Elena Podolsky and Khadija Cutcher, Canada’s team of Gabriella Brisson, Sarah Brunin-Brouillette, Carlie Cholette, Catherine Dee, Jordan Field, Claudia Holzner, Camille Rémillard, Jacqueline Simoneau, Natasha Bernier, Anne-Marie Chouinard, Gabrielle Brisson and Mathilde Sauve earned a score of 83.800 points to claim the third spot on the podium.
The Russian team took the gold with a score of 86.400, two full points ahead of the second place team from Greece. Team Italy was fourth with 83.700 points, followed by the American team with 80.000.
“I am so proud of how our 13-15 team did today,” says Canadian Team Leader Kristen Brawley. “They represented Canada with strength and courage after a challenging training camp in Quebec City and Obrenovac, and then a long day at the pool yesterday.”
In solo action Sarah Brunin-Brouillette held on to fourth position with a score of 83.000. The top three finishers were Greece’s Evangelia Platanioti (85.200), Milena Miteva of Russia (84.800) and American Alexa Tchekmarev (84.000). France’s Maeliss Roux finished fifth with 81.200 points.
“Sarah was full of energy and passion in the pool this morning,” says Brawley. “She has an amazing presence when she performs, and she captivated the audience.”
The team will return home to Canada tomorrow.
