The women's S9 100m Butterfly saw three British competitors, Claire Cashmore, Lizzie Simpkin and Stephanie Millward, vying for a spot in the final.
Cashmore and Simpkin swam in the first heat and it was Cashmore that touched first at the 50m mark but it was Simpkin that proved stronger over the final 50m as she pushed ahead of Cashmore in the final 10m.
The 14-year-old Simpkin smashed the European record after touching in a time of 1:13.20 and qualifying as fifth fastest for the fastest.
"It was really scary when I walked out onto pool-deck," Simpkin said. "I was very nervous. My race plan was to come back hard through the final 50m. This worked well for me and gave me a new record and personal best time. I really want to go faster tonight and I am going to rest now ready for the final."
Cashmore also qualified for the final after finishing in a new personal best time of 1:13.45 and is ranked seventh going into the final.
Millward swam in the second heat and didn't look at her best throughout the race and finished in a time of 1:15.62. She missed the final by five places after finishing in 13th place.
Three British women were competing to get into the final of the women's SM6 200M Individual Medley - reigning Paralympic Champion Natalie Jones, Nyree Lewis and 13-year-old Eleanor Simmonds.
The first heat saw Lewis touch in second place to reach the final with a time of 3:26.94. The second heat saw Jones and Simmonds go up against Fuying Jiang as they fought for their final places.
China's Jiang went out hard and commanded a large lead over the Brits after the first 100m. Jones started to close the gap over the breaststroke but it was Simmonds freestyle leg that stood out. Simmonds overtook Jones in the final 50m and although she couldn't catch Jiang she finished in an impressive time of 3:19.91 to qualify as third fastest for this evening's final.
"I walked out and saw all the people and it was amazing," Simmonds said. "It is the first time I have competed in front of a crowd that big which was really exciting but I was nervous. I had a great finish and felt comfortable through the race.
"I have made my first Paralympic final and I am excited but it is the Paralympics and you never know what finals will bring but I am ready to put in another good swim."
Jones finished third in her heat in a time of 3:21.34 and is ranked in fourth place for the final.
"I was disappointed with that time, Jones said. "I worked to my race plan but Jiang was too quick for me out there. I am going to go and re-focus ready for the final."
