A colossal second quarter assault by the Swifts, who matched incredibly tight man-on-man defence with perfect timing on attack, saw the NSW side lead by 14 at halftime.
The Magic, fearful of losing their second spot on the ANZ Championship ladder, showed their true mettle to get back within five in the last quarter, but their final kick came too late.
The highlight of the encounter, however, was the Swifts playing their best netball of the season so far, to bolster their chances of a top four finals spot. They came into this match off a bye, but started with a bang, scoring off the Magic's opening centre pass.
Swifts shooter Catherine Cox withstood the immediate pressure from Casey Williams, playing back at goal keep, and quickly found her range.
At the opposite end, there was no love lost between Sonia Mkoloma and Irene van Dyk, in the melee that was the Magic's shooting circle. Julianna Naoupu had to wriggle free from the close attention of Swift's goal defence Rebecca Bulley, but the break eventually came for the Magic, who scored three in a row to edge into the lead after five minutes.
It was shortlived. Some overly optimistic passing to van Dyk - under massive pressure by the Swifts' defence - cost the Magic in the latter stages of the quarter, and the NSW side moved into the driving seat, leading 14-10 at the first break.
A classic steal by Mkoloma on a van Dyk attempt at goal signaled the Swifts' intentions to carry on the second quarter as they left off and quickly the gap widened to seven goals.
Again the Magic struggled to push the ball through court to their shooters, and the Swifts made no mistake with any possession they grabbed.
In an attempt to get more control in the Magic defence, Sulu Tone-Fitzpatrick entered the game at goal keep, sending wing defence Peta Scholz to the bench.
But the Swifts' confidence only continued to swell, with Mkoloma and wing defence Mo'onia Gerrard making life miserable for the home side, who found themselves 14 goals in arrears.
Susan Pratley at goal attack came into her own as the spell drew to a close, and the Swifts had a commanding 32-18 halftime lead.
The Magic incurred an unprecedented 19 turnovers in the half, which forced Magic coach Noeline Taurua to look to a new line-up to upset the Swifts' perfect timing - Jamilah Gupwell came on at goal attack, Frances Solia at wing attack and Sholz returned to the game.
Gradually the Magic reshuffle made a difference, closing the gulf to 11. Tone-Fitzpatrick threw herself into the game - and at one point into the crowd - in an attempt to break the spell woven by the Swifts shooters.
A long bomb launched by Solia in the last minute got the Magic to within 10 going into the final quarter, 42-32.
With intense midcourt defensive pressure from the opening whistle, the Magic built on their comeback in the fourth quarter, with Gupwell answering the call to put up successful shots with van Dyk tightly marked.
Five goals separated the two sides with eight minutes remaining, but Cox remained impassive and deadly under the Swifts' goalpost, and ended the match with an impressive 31 from 36 attempts.
