SWATCH FIVB World Tour pair reign supreme on NORCECA Circui

Americans Claire D'Amore and Jennifer Zinder (center) won the women's edition of the tournament in El Salvador on Sunday whilst Mexican duo Aldo Miramontes and Juan Virgen picked up the men's title
San Salvador, El Salvador, March 29, 2010 – SWATCH FIVB World Tour Mexican duo Aldo Miramontes and Juan Virgen claimed the crown at the El Salvador Beach Volleyball leg of the 2010 NORCECA Circuit after beating USA team Ty Loomis and Matt Prosser 2-0 ( 21-13, 21-9) in Sunday’s final.

Elsewhere, Americans Claire D’Amore and Jennifer Zinder won the women’s tournament, beating Cubans Niriam Sinal and Kirenia Ballar 2-0 (21-19, 21-17) in a tough battle.

The women’s bronze went to Puerto Ricans Yarleen Santiago and Dariam Acevedo who beat Guatemalans Maria Jose Orellana and Lourdes Ramirez 2-0 (21-14, 21-17) however the best match of the day was reserved for the men’s bronze medal contest where Cubans Karell Peña and Sergio Gonzalez prevailed over the Canadian pair of Martin Reader and Ray Sewell beating them on their third match-point in the final set 2-1 (21-13, 17-21, 22-20).

The men’s semi finals saw Miramontes and Virgen overcome Peña and González 2-0 (21-12, 21-19) while Loomis and Prosser edged Reader and Sewell 2-0 (21-19, 21-18).

In the women’s semi finals, D’Amore and Zinder recorded a 2-1 (18-21, 21-16, 15-11) victory over Orellana and Ramírez while Sinal and Ballar defeated Santiago and Acevedo 2-0 (21-17, 21-16).


The 2010 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit continues next weekend in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic.
