Surrey Golfer Leads Qualifiers for Grand Medal Final
Chris scored net 69 at the Volvo EWGA South region medal final at Petersfield Golf Club. The event was contested by the best club medal players from EWGA’s South region and the top 10 qualified for the Grand Medal Final at Droitwich Golf Club, Worcestershire, on June 25.
The 10, who will join qualifiers from EWGA’s other five regions to compete for the title of England’s champion medal player, are: Chris Foran (Cranleigh), Nicki Grainger (Croham Hurst), Pat Johns (Cottesmore), Debbie Gorin (Redlibbets), Liz Borrow (Corhampton), Lou Wills (Roehampton), Lorraine Morgan (South Winchester), Victoria Wells (Surrey National), Vicky Milne (Hankley Common) and Rachel Rooker (Northwood). All the regional finalists returned the best four scores in the Volvo EWGA Medals at their club during 2010.
The South region final was played in testing conditions in cold, windy and showery weather. But it did little to deter Chris Foran, who was playing off 19 and got her round off to an excellent start with a gross par on the first hole – and followed up with six more during the day. “It was a nice, steady round, played with two very pleasant partners and the golf course was in fantastic condition. We couldn’t have asked for more – apart from some sunshine!” said Chris. She arrived at the final with few aspirations: “I came hoping I wouldn’t be last! To actually win was a bonus, a tremendous bonus.”
Chris has been playing for about 10 years and this will be her first national final. “I am looking forward to it and hopefully we will have a good day,” she said.
