The ECB’s Super 4s competition gets underway this Bank Holiday weekend with the Twenty20 Challenge.
Monday’s mini-competition sees Nicky Shaw’s Diamonds take on the Rubies, and the Emeralds, captained by Alexia Walker, will play the Sapphires.
The winners from these two games will then face each other in the Final, while the remaining two teams will have a third place play-off.
The first round of matches starts at 11.30am, followed by the third place play-off and the Final at 3pm. All games will be played at Loughborough University.
Last years winners, Charlotte Edwards’ Diamonds will be looking to retain their title by beating the Rubies and then the Emeralds or Sapphires in the final.
Executive Director for Women’s Cricket, Gill McConway is especially passionate about this year’s competition: “With all going to plan it should be an excellent day. There are promising youngsters on show and they will be looking to impress. With ex-Sapphires captain Laura Newton retired it opens the door for other youngsters to put their name forward. Rosalie Birch has a great opportunity to show what she is made of having been made Sapphires captain. I’m really looking forward to seeing these new youngsters brought into the teams competing with the senior pros. The future of England women’s cricket looks most exciting.”
The league competition begins on the weekend of June 2-3, with further matches taking place on June 16 and 23 and over the weekend of July 7-8.
