Loughborough University’s rowers have achieved another best performance this week with a top 44 placing at the Women’s VIII Head of the River race on London’s River Thames.
The nine-strong squad posted the 44th fastest time within a 291-boat field that included Olympic athletes and the country’s best senior rowing clubs. And the team’s time of 20 minutes 21.48 seconds over the 7.4km course was the fastest within the Senior 4 category and just two seconds behind the team from University rowing supremos Oxford Brookes.
University sports scholar Laurian Pepper and rowing club president Becs Packer led the Loughborough crew of Sophie Pain, Danielle Rooney, Emily Goldsmith, Charlotte Reilly-O'Donnell, Dominique Lord, Katie Laverick and cox Fran Buckley at the world’s largest women’s rowing regatta.
“The girls put together the perfect race over 7.4km, they all should be really proud,” said head coach Mitch Rosenlund. “As a group we now look forward to the summer’s racing as we all continue to move Loughborough Students Rowing Club forwards".
