Two-time LPGA Tour winner Angela Stanford emerged as the second round leader following a tournament-record 6-under-par 66 on Friday at the inaugural $1 million Lorena Ochoa Invitational by Banamex and Corona Light. Stanford (68-66=134, -10) holds a two-stroke lead over Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year candidate Yani Tseng (68-68=136, -8) entering the weekend at the 6,644-yard, par-72 Guadalajara Country Club.
Stanford got her day started with back-to-back birdies on holes two and three and made the turn at 4-under-par for the day. She added three birdies and a lone bogey on the back-nine to move to 10-under-par 134 following 36 holes of play. Stanford picked up her second-career LPGA Tour victory in September at the Bell Micro Classic. In her three Tour starts since the win, she has finished no worse than tied for fourth including a runner-up showing at the Longs Drugs Challenge. The 30-year-old has amassed over $900,000 this season and could cross the $1 million mark in season earnings this week with a strong finish.
