Sports Bra Statistics!

Sports Bra Statistics!

LessBounce.com the sports bra company has conducted an online survey amongst its customers over the summer and found the message about the need for a good sports bra for all different types of exercise is getting through!

Over 40% of respondents had more than 5 sports bras, with 64% having different sports bras for different sports.  This year has seen leading sports bra brand Shock Absorber launch a range of sports specific bras which has reinforced this point.  LessBounce.com founder, Selaine Saxby, has highlighted this for years

“Different sports require different support and it is essential that women get a sports bra that gives the correct support for the exercise they are engaged in.  A sports bra for a high impact sport such as running or aerobics, can normally be used for a low impact sport, however the reverse is not true for a low impact bra sports bra if designed for walking or Pilates.”

With many taking extra care over budgets at present, it was reassuring to see that 95% of respondents shopped on support rather than price!  “If new to exercise one high impact sports bra that does the job for all exercise is the best investment” says Selaine  “However, for those already training regularly old high impact sports bras, can be downgraded for use for low impact training before going in the bin.”

But the bin is not used as often as it should be - the research also found 26% of respondents only replace their sports bra every one to two years.  A sports bra is a technical garment and the elasticity is damaged by repeated wash and wear – the recommended replacement cycle is every 30-40 washes.

A previous project with Roehampton University found that even sports bras that had been hand washed showed poorer performance after washing and wearing just 35 times.

Selaine observes “Further research is needed in the area of replacement of sports bras.  However, there are telltale signs that your sports bra needs replacing:

-         Holes or frayed elastic.  It may sound obvious, but we speak to numerous ladies who have literally worn out their sports bra – they need replacing before they get to this point!

-         “Bobbling” of the fabric is an indication a sports bra is wearing out

-         Increased breast motion compared to a new sports bra

-         Chafing – is often a sign that a sports bra needs replacing as the bra is rubbing more against the skin where the elastic has stretched”

The new winter 2010 catalogue is now available with exclusive sports bras and offers.  For your free copy visit www.lessbounce.com or call freephone 08000 36 38 40.
