Sol Campbell today called on footballs authorities to deduct points from clubs whose supporters are found guilty of racist chanting - a call which Sporting Equals thinks should go much further.
Arun Kang, Chief Executive, said “More needs to be done to eradicate racial discrimination in sport, and on the terraces. Only zero tolerance will change unacceptable behaviour therefore football games should be stopped if racist abuse happens.”
“Racial abuse still exists even though every top team has more black players - yet bigoted fans don't see the irony. The reason that this abuse continues is that action hasn't been firm enough to cut it out. All the slogans and banners are great - but these efforts are only undermined unless punishments are proportionate to the serious offence of racial abuse.”
Sporting Equals wants more Sports National Governing Bodies to increase BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) representation on their Boards to ensure more diversity in spectator participation and volunteering.
