Speedminton, the biggest craze in Europe has now traveled across the pond and
is hitting the U.S. by storm. The game, which was developed in Germany in
2002, now has hundreds of thousands of fans and players in over 20 countries,
including the United States.
Played by tennis superstar, Maria Sharapova and many other top athletes,
Speedminton is a combination of tennis, racquetball and badminton. But, there are
several differences which makes the game so popular. First, you don't need a
net. Players defend their "square" which is made by placing four cones in the
playing area. Second, you can play the game anywhere: on snow, on grass, on
asphalt, in a gym, parking lot and even rooftops. Finally, the speeders
(shuttlecocks) have been designed so that you can put lights in them so that you can
play in the dark. And, they aren't your grandmother's shuttlecocks. These
"speeders" can travel up to 190 mph.
"This is one of the coolest new games to hit the planet. As a former
competitive tennis player, this is just as much fun and to be honest, a lot faster and
harder. If you aren't in shape, this game will definitely improve that,"
