Southern Stars sweep to nine-wicket win on Gold Coast

The Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars have recorded a nine-wicket win over Pakistan in the first Women’s T20 (WT20 INTL) of the Commonwealth Bank International Women’s Series on the Gold Coast today.

The visitors were bowled out for 92 in their 20 overs, which the Australian side chased down at the loss of only one wicket, finishing 1-95 in the 13th over. Erin Osborne was named player of the match for her career best T20 figures of 4-19.

Pakistan openers Marina Iqbal (22) and Nain Abidi (20) were the leading run-scorers for their side before their lower order suffered a batting collapse, losing their last five wickets for eight runs. Osborne claimed 4-19 while Sarah Coyte (3-9) snared her three wickets in the final over.

Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars openers Elyse Villani (58*) and Jess Jonassen (19) set up their side’s run chase with a 59-run partnership before Jonassen was caught out at deep mid-wicket. Captain Meg Lanning added an unbeaten 8* to push her side past their set target. Nida Dar (1-15) was the sole wicket-taker for Pakistan.

The two teams will meet in the second T20 of the series on Sunday 31 August at Gold Coast District Cricket Club. The match will be live streamed on cricket.com.au and broadcast live on ABC Extra on digital radio, online and mobile.
