In Women’s Premier Division Chelmsford, who survived the relegation play-off last season, were decimated 0-8 at home against Olton & West Warwicks, former GB international Denise Marston-Smith scoring thrice, the game was evenly distributed with four goals in each half. Canterbury battled out a hard fought scoreless draw with Leicester who stuttered out of the blocks for the title race, whilst Slough came back from a goal deficit at half time, Lauren Penney and Natalie Bell secured the win against the newly promoted Hampshire side, featuring England international Becky Duggan in goal.


Bowdon Hightown came out victors in the Women’s Premier Division North West derby against Poynton, Tina Cullen – who else? – put them into the lead and with Charlotte Hartley putting the game beyond doubt in the 66th minute. Lizzy Aldous’ two goals for Ipswich, away at Clifton, were not enough for the Suffolk side to return with any points, Harriet Pearce scored the deciding goal in the 66th minute for Clifton to record a win on the first day of the season.
