A NEW logo has been officially launched for the first-ever 2010 Youth Olympics, to be staged in Singapore.
It was unveiled by Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Singapore's Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports.
Called the "Spirit of Youth", officials said the logo "celebrates Singapore 2010 in an adventurous, open and fun way.
"It evokes the Singaporean sense of confidence and progress."
A red flame represents the passion to learn and the power of positive thinking.
A purple star symbolises excellence and the pride of representing one’s nation.
A crescent reflects dynamic youth, full of promise, officials claimed.
The active appearance of the “Singapore 2010” word mark comprises individual and unique characters that signify harmony among the diverse participants.
The Spirit of Youth inspires all of us to express the Olympic spirit and celebrate the first-ever Youth Olympic Games.
The launch of the logo coincided with the arrival in Singapore of Britain's Minister for Trade and Investment Gareth Thomas.
He is visting as part of a 10-day tour of South-East Asia and Taiwan to further trade ties.
During the visit to Singapore Thomas is due to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries relating to the 2010 Youth Olympics.
This, officials from Britain and Singapore said, will ensure the mutual sharing of knowledge and experience in delivering major sports projects, like the London 2012 Olympics, and maximising the business legacy of these events.
