Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, February 10, 2010 – Sheilla, captain of the Brazilian women’s team and MVP in the 2009 and 2006 editions of the FIVB World Grand Prix, accomplished a major milestone in Brazil’s national league on Tuesday when she passed 1,000 points.

The 26-year-old, who passed the mark in Blausiegel Sao Caetano's 3-0 (30-28, 25-21, 25-21) victory over Volei Futuro, now has 1,017 points in the competition.

“I didn’t think I was that close to the mark,” said Sheilla, who scored 18 points in total during the game. “It’s great to be among the players who have achieved it. I’m very happy.”

Sheilla, who won Olympic gold in 2008 with Brazil, is expected to be a prominent figure for the women’s world No. 1 team at this year’s FIVB World Grand Prix, which runs from August 6-29, and the FIVB Women’s World Championships Japan 2010 from October 29-November 14.

Earlier this month, former Brazilian international Erika became the highest scorer in Superliga history with 3,380 points. To read the article, click here
