The victory is Williams’ 10th singles Grand Slam title, making her the seventh woman to win 10 or more major singles crowns.
Williams also takes over the women’s No.1 ranking after her victory, from Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic, who lost to Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli in the fourth round in Melbourne.
