The women's world number 1 Serena Williams may not play in the US Open grand slam after having surgery on her foot. She cut her foot on a piece of glass shortly after her triumphant victory at Wimbledon and has undergone surgery. The tour spokesman Andrew Walker has said that her return is questionable with the tournament set to begin on 30th August. Her experience at last year's open was overshadowed by her outburst at a lines person for which she was disqualified and later given a hefty fine. Having already missed Istanbul and now withdrawing from Cincinnati and Montreal only time will tell whether Williams can capture her 4th title at Flushing Meadows.
