Serena defeats Sharapova to face another Wimbledon Final

After the drama of the first semi final, the second one in store had two
powerhouses of womens tennis, Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova. Since
defeating Serena Williams to win Wimbledon in 2004, Sharapova is still
waiting for another win after going 17 matches without a win against her.

Clearly showing nerves Sharapova doubled faulted on a break point in her
first game giving Williams an early lead which she wasn’t willing to give
up easily as she stormed into a commanding 2-0 lead. Having saved two break
points, Sharapova got on the scorecard but it did not stop the flow of
Williams who was at her unstoppable best.

Showing who is the real star of the female game, Williams at times bullied
Sharapova pulling her from one side of the court to the other as she
breezed her way through the first set 6-2. It looked like Sharapova was on
her way to another loss and her body language did little to convince you
otherwise.

The second set was a more even contest but when required Williams stepped
up a gear and delivered either an ace or a blistering backhand winner to
get the vital point. Sharapova didn’t really trouble the Williams serve
throughout the match as Serena cruised through to the final as she
continues to pursue a season grand slam, while Sharapova will go back to
the drawing board and work out how she can beat Williams.
