Salgado Sisters Atop Brazilian Podium
Santos, Brazil, April 1, 2007 - The Salgado sisters rebounded from a Friday setback to win five-straight matches to capture the women's Brazilian domestic title here Sunday by defeating Leila Barros and Ana Paula Connelly in the finals.
The daughters of Isabel Salgado, a former international Beach Volleyball champion, Maria Clara and Carolina captured the fourth Brazilian domestic stop of the season by defeating Leila and Ana Paula 18-15 and 18-11.
The seventh-ranked team on the domestic circuit, the Salgado's posted wins over the second- (Talita Antunes/Renata Ribeiro) and fourth-ranked (Shaylyn Bede/Ágatha Bednarczuk) Saturday before beating the third-ranked Leila and Ana Paula Sunday.
Top-ranked Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca, who were defeated in Saturday's semi-finals by Leila and Ana Paula 26-28, 18-14 and 15-12, captured the third-place match with a 20-18 and 18-15 win over Shaylyn and Ágatha. The Salgado defeated Shaylyn and Ágatha 16-18, 18-15 and 15-11 in Saturday's second semi-final.
