Ruslip up for the cup after battling past Cambridge
RUISLIP Eagles are just one win away from the Women’s English Cup final after a strong performance against Cambridge at Leyton SCORE Centre in London on Sunday. The 29-9 victory means they will face Manchester University in their next game, with a spot in the final at stake.
Despite being without influential captain Dani Sposi, the GB international playmaker who is out with a broken ankle, the Eagles began strongly and Cambridge were always playing catch-up. Erica Recsa stepped into Sposi’s shoes at playmaker, and she made a great start, especially in the centre of defence where two Firepower Cambridge jump shots kept them in front.
The Ruislip defence was solid across the board, but their star turn was goalkeeper Christina Dreksler who saved four from six Cambridge penalties and picked up the player of the match award for her efforts.
