Sao Paulo, Brazil, September 29, 2008 - Brazilians Rexona-Ades defeated Centro Deportivo Nacional of Dominican Republic on Monday night to tie with Finasa-Osasco atop the preliminary round of the Women’s Volleyball Salonpas Cup. Joyce Silva was top scorer for the winners with 21 points, Fabiana had 12 and Erika Coimbra and Regiane Bidias chipped in 10 apiece. Dominican Bethania de la Cruz was the best of the match with 23 and Milagros Cabral had 12. In the first match Monday, Scavolini Pesaro (1-1) had no difficulties against the young Kinder Voleibol of Portugal (0-2). The Italian squad won 25-18, 25-5, 25-10. Christiane Furst and Ilaria Garzaro had 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the winning side, Katarzyna Skowronska added nine and Carolina Costagrande and Jacqueline Carvalho each contributed seven. Marta Esteves had 10 for the Portuguese team. On Tuesday, Pinheiros-Mackenzie of Sao Paulo meet Kinder Voleibol and unbeaten teams Rexona-Ades and Finasa-Osasco play in the night game. |
