Australian ace Sam Shannahan has already shifted her attention to next month’s New Zealand Open following an indifferent campaign at Taren Point.
Having dominated last year’s NSW Open, contesting two finals including capturing her maiden GP title in the women’s singles, Shannahan reached the quarter-finals of the pairs and fours last week before bowing out in both disciples.
Having entered the $30,000 grand prix with lofty expectations, the 20-year-old could be forgiven for dwelling on the results, but instead will look to rebound as quickly as possible with a successful showing in Auckland.
“I’m off to the New Zealand Open next month, which I’m really looking forward to, and will partner Kelli Wray in the pairs, as well as playing in the singles and triples,” Shannahan revealed in her myBowls blog earlier today.
“I’ve never played with Kelli before, nor been to Auckland for that matter, but I’m looking forward to both.”

With the fifth and final Bowls Australia grand prix due to commence on Monday, November 23, Shannahan is just one member of a powerful contigent heading across the Tasman, which also includes national teammates Wray, Penny Landherr, Anne Johns, Lee Schraner and Gerard Beath.
With Wray and Johns partnering Natasha Van Eldik and Karen Murphy to glory in the women’s fours at the Janome NSW Open last week, their confidence will be riding high, while Beath has fond memories of the event having reached the singles final in 2007.
A multi-discipline tournament, the New Zealand Open features singles, pairs and triples for both men and women, with qualifying to be staged from November 19 to 22, while the main event will run from November 23 to 27.
