British Gas Synchronised Swimmer Jenna Randall performed well in her first World Championship final and moved up eleven places in the world rankings in the Solo Technical programme.
Competing in Rome, Randall looked to improve on her performance yesterday and looked confident as she took her starting position.
From the moment she dived into the water she looked to have worked on her corrections from her preliminary performance and she finished the routine with increased strength as she showed her improved stamina.
The Olympian finished in eighth place with scores of 9s across the board for Artistic Impression and took a total of 90.166 – just 0.2 points behind Greece who finished in seventh place.
“That was much better than yesterday,” Randall said. “I am really glad that it was better and my combined spin worked out much better. I haven’t been training the combined spin much as the solo is not an Olympic event.
“It was great to have nines across the board on the Artistic Impression because that was a major aim for me in this event.”
Head Coach Tatiana Tsym said: “I am very glad with the performance. But for me it is not just about the scores, more importantly she improved on her performance from yesterday and the intensity increased throughout the performance.”
The Duet Technical has been adapted since Beijing and the girls were ready to build on their performance at the 2007 World Championships where they finished in 20th place.
Jenna Randall and Olivia Allison have been working with the Spanish and Russian synchro squads looked strong through the water and had increased speed in their leg movements.
They finished in 12th place with scores of high 8s and 9s and took a total of 89.166 which is two points higher than their Olympic Technical routine score.
“I thought it felt quite good when we were in the water,” Randall said. “I think that we got everything right that we were aiming to do from this morning but I thought it would have been good to have got 9s.”
“For the final we want to start getting over the 9 barrier and get 9s across the board. We also want to aim to be more consistent through the performance,” Allison said.
