Lady Taveners’ President and former England women’s cricket captain Rachael Heyhoe Flint OBE will be at Lord’s tomorrow to make a cheque presentation for £25,884 to the ECB for The Lady Taverners Girls Cricket Competition. The donation will be made in front of the Pavilion during the England v South Africa Women’s International, and will be received by fellow former captain Clare Connor OBE who is now Head of England Women’s Cricket at the ECB.

The Lady Taverners Girls Cricket Competition was created to provide increased opportunities for girls to play competitively and has been supported by the charity since 2003. The competition provides indoor and outdoor events for both under 13 and under 15 age groups and has seen 2,165 teams take part in it to date.
The new donation provided by The Lady Taverners will take their total investment in the project up to £131,154 and ensure that over the next two years a further 955 teams will be able to take part in the competition. By 2010 it is anticipated that over 31,200 girls will have taken part in the scheme since 2003.
Rachael Heyhoe Flint OBE said, “Having been a campaigner for women’s cricket most of my life The Lady Taverners Girls Cricket Competition is a scheme very close to my heart. Cricket has provided me with so many wonderful opportunities in life and I passionately believe that it can offer girls so many lessons, skills and values which are becoming increasingly important in the modern world. As a charity we are delighted to be able to make such an impact and it’s astounding to think that by 2010 more than 30,000 girls will have taken part in the competition.”
Rachael will be joined at the cheque presentation by players from both the England and South Africa squads and will be taking part in a photo call in front of the famous Pavilion.
