Porsche CEO Matthias Müller congratulates Angelique Kerber

Stuttgart. After winning the WTA tournament in Linz, Angelique Kerber is now looking forward full of confidence to the WTA Championships in Istanbul. “I’ve won my first title of the year,” said the Porsche Team Germany player just over a week before the season-ending finale on the Bosporus where the year’s eight most successful players are in the line-up. “I can now travel to Istanbul without any pressure on me. It’s a great feeling.”

“We’re delighted that, in Angelique Kerber, a Porsche Team Germany player will be competing in Istanbul and we wish her lots of success for the season-ending highlight,” said Matthias Müller, CEO of Porsche AG. “She has worked very hard in the past weeks to achieve her aim. Qualifying for the tournament and the win in Linz are her reward for never giving up after suffering setbacks and for always believing in herself. The kind of attitude also makes her a real role model for the Porsche Talent Team Germany players.”

On the finishing straight of a season that, in her view, was not always easy, Angelique Kerber suddenly started playing her best tennis. She reached the final in Tokyo, was a quarterfinalist in Beijing and then in Linz (Austria) she won her third career WTA title by beating the former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic from Serbia 6-4, 7-6 in the final. It has also given her new found confidence. “I’m feeling better from match to match,” said the 25-year-old who last year won the tournaments in Paris and Copenhagen. By advancing to the semifinals in Linz, she clinched her place for the second time in succession at the season-ending Championships from 22 to 27 October. The German was the last player to qualify for the six million dollar event. “I’m really excited to have done it in the end,” she said. Porsche Team Germany captain Barbara Rittner feels she can do well on the Bosporus: “I’m convinced she can do a good job in Istanbul.”
