SINGAPORE, December 21, 2007 – For the first time ever, a Singaporean will compete in an LPGA event at the HSBC Women’s Champions. The organisers have reserved one spot for a local player in February’s event – creating a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of what will be the most glittering and glamorous field of female golfers ever assembled in Asia.

The inaugural event, which will boast a prize fund of US$2 million, has already been described by American superstar Natalie Gulbis as “the first Major” of 2008 and “the first Major in Asia” and tournament organisers are now calling on Singapore’s best players to earn their place in the tournament.

The HSBC Women’s Champions Qualifying Tournament will be held at Tanah Merah Country Club’s Garden Course on January 16, 2008. Amateurs with a handicap of two and below can participate and the female golfer with the lowest gross score will represent Singapore when the world’s elite women golfers compete here from February 28 to March 2, 2008.

The closing date for entry is Friday, December 28, 2007 at 6pm – a mere seven days away from now. Players wishing to take part must submit their entries with all the necessary documentation to prove their eligibility, following which will be a nervous few weeks of practice ahead of the showdown in the New Year.

While the Singaporean amateur playing will not take home any prize money from the tournament, the experience and privilege of playing alongside the world’s best female golfers represents a unique opportunity for the ladies game in the Republic.

It is expected that at least four Singaporeans will meet the criteria to enter the Qualifying Tournament, which will be played off the championship tees on the Garden Course.

For registration and enquiries, please contact Ms Claudine Foo at email: [email protected] or Tel: (65) 6505 9310 / (65) 8333 8061. The official entry form is also available for download at http://www.tmcc.org.sg/hsbc.html
