Play More, Learn More with Milo Moe Youth Triathlon 2010

MILO® believes that learning through play is an important aspect for a child’s total development, as it is through play (sports) that they will learn important values such as teamwork, determination, courage, confidence, discipline and respect – values that a child carries into adulthood.

One example of how children can incorporate exercise into their lives is this weekend’s MILO® MOE Youth Triathlon where about 937 participants will come together for a fun and safe triathlon experience in Singapore’s official youth only triathlon. Coming from 127 local and international schools, participants aged nine to nineteen are poised to take on the four categories (Junior, Intermediate, Senior & Relay) this Saturday, 13 March 2010, at Sentosa, Palawan Beach.

The unique non-competitive format of the event created by MOE and MILO®  ensures that everyone is a winner simply by completing the triathlon. The reduced distances for each segment of the event cater to young triathletes of all fitness and skill levels, while the relay category allows for even first timers to easily form teams amongst classmates and friends. All participants will receive an official event sports singlet, a goodie bag of MILO® and other sponsored products, as well as an exclusive finisher’s medal and a customized certificate of participation.

Mr. Suresh Narayanan, Managing Director of Nestle Singapore, expressed his excitement for the event, “Working closely with our long-time partner, the Ministry Of Education, we are pleased to see the fruition of this year’s MILO® MOE Youth Triathlon. This flagship event is part of MILO®’s continuing efforts in championing youth sports development in Singapore, and is a perfect vehicle to bring to live the concept of learning through play, a belief that is at the heart of our recently launched “Play More Learn More” campaign. We hope that participants will learn important key values such as discipline, determination and teamwork as well as encourage and inspire others around them.”

“Learning through sports is an important aspect in the holistic education of a child and an event such as the MILO® MOE Youth Triathlon supported by MILO® is aligned with the desired outcomes of education which includes confidence, teamwork, respect and determination. Through their participation in the event, we believe that the students will be able to pick up important values such as sportsmanship, respect and perseverance. The event is also a good platform to bring together students from both local and international school systems and foster friendship, understanding and camaraderie.” said Mr Goh Ek Piang, Deputy Director of Co-Curricular Activities of the Ministry of Education.

Committed to bringing “Play More, Learn More” campaign to an even larger audience, 800 consumers will stand to win the opportunity to learn a new sport when they purchase selected MILO® products in the month of March. These Learn-To-Play courses, organized by the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) will include sports courses such as tennis and yoga, in-line skating and even hip-hop dance. Furthermore, another 180,000 free entry passes to any of SSC’s swimming pool complexes will be given out to consumers when they purchase selected MILO® products to encourage them to embrace an active, healthy lifestyle.

A great supporter and active participant in sports development in Singapore since the 1950s, MILO® has consistently contributed to a sporting nation, through the sponsorship of various popular sports such as track and field, swimming, basketball, soccer and triathlon with key partners such as the MOE, SSC and People’s Association.
