Otherwise Engaged, Liu Gaoyang Replaces Chen Meng in Hyderabad Line-Up
Winner of a full house of titles at the Volkswagen World Junior Championships in Bahrain just over one year ago; Chen Meng will not be on duty in the Indian city of Hyderabad for the forthcoming Volkswagen World Junior Championships which commence on Sunday 9th December 2012.
Currently she is on duty in Hangzhou. She is competing in the GAC GROUP 2012 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals where she is the top seed and has made a fine start in her quest for gold.
She beat Japan’s Ai Fukuhara in four straight games in her opening contest and thus has reserved a place in the quarter-finals.
Full House Winner In Hyderabad, she is replaced by Liu Gaoyang; like Chen Meng, the winner of a full house of titles at a major global junior tournament.
Earlier this year in January, Liu Gaoyang won all three titles available at the ITTF World Cadet Challenge in the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico.
Success in Puerto Rico Alongside Hong Kong’s Doo Hoi Kem, Korea’s Lee Seul and India’s Maria Rony; she led Asia to the Girls’ Team title before partnering Doo Hoi Kem to Girls’ Doubles success.
ITTF Junior Circuit Success Gold in the Caribbean in January, later in the year on the ITTF Junior Circuit, she enjoyed success on the ITTF Junior Circuit.
On home soil she won the Girls’ Singles title in both Chengdu and Taicang.
Stylish Left handed, it is the silky smooth choice of Liu Gaoyang that impresses; nothing is hurried, the timing is exquisite and the balance that of a tight rope walker.
In Hyderabad she lines up alongside Zhu Yuling, Gu Yuting and Gu Ruochen.
Previous Experience All three are players with previous experience in World Junior Championships; in fact Liu Gaoyang is the only debutante in the Girls’ Team.
Zhu Yuling Zhu Yuling won the Girls’ Singles title at the Volkswagen World Junior Championships in Bratislava in 2010 and one year later was the runner up to Chen Meng in Manama.
Also in 2010 she won gold in the Girls’ Doubles event with Gu Yuting and was a member of the successful Chinese title winning outfit in the Girls’ Team event in 2011.
Gu Yuting Similarly, Gu Yuting has an outstanding international record.
She won the gold medal in the Girls’ Singles event at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010, having one year earlier being the Girls’ Singles runner up at the Volkswagen World Junior Championships in Cartagena de Indias.
In the final, she was beaten by Wu Yang.
Doubles Specialist In addition she was a member of the successful Chinese outfit who won gold at the Volkswagen World Junior Championships in 2009 and 2011 and on all three appearances has secured the Girls’ Doubles title.
She won in harness with Zhu Yuling in 2010 in Bratislava and with Chen Meng in both Cartagena de Indias in 2009 and in Manama in 2011.
Completing Team Completing the very impressive Chinese Girls’ Team line up is Gu Ruochen,who like Zhu Yuling and Gu Yuting, was present in Manama one year ago.
She joined forces with her compatriots to win team gold whilst being a Girls’ Singles silver medallist.
Retained Hong Kong Title Also, she finished in runners up spot wth Zhu Yuling in the Girls’ Doubles event and was a Mixed Doubles bronze medallist with Wu Jiaji.
Earlier this year she won the Junior Girls’ Singles title at the Nikon Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open; a title she also won in 2011.
Simply Awesome No Cheng Meng in the line-up, she is otherwise engaged; nevertheless it is a very impressive quartet; simply awesome, a class quartet.
