Grandi welcomed authorities from the attending Federations, gathered in the sumptuous and former capital of the Russian Empire, with words of warning. In reference to the current situation and the mid and long term challenges facing the FIG, President Grandi emphasised the need for vigilance in terms of development, reminding those present that none of the benefits the Federation enjoys today is necessarily permanent. "Gymnastics may be a flagship of the Olympic programme today, but we want it to remain so in the future!" said the President to an attentive audience.
