Co-operative Netball Superleague franchise Northern Thunder will have new owners at the helm at the start of the 2008-9 season.
The join owners of Netball UK Ltd, based in the North West, Debbie Hallas and Mike Greenwood following a meeting last week with England Netball's CEO Paul Clark and Director of Netball Nigel Holl.
The former Northern Thunder owner Peter Ferneyhough has agreed to assist the new management in an advisory capacity.
Netball UK Ltd Managing Director Debbie Hallas said, "We are delighted to secure the franchise and are determined to promote and develop Northern Thunder into a team with a strong financial foundation which will attract quality players and produce a strong squad. In addition, our aim is to forge strong links with the North West region inp roviding pathways for coaches and umpires to the highest level of domestic competition."
Mike Greenwood, co-owner and director of Netball UK Ltd, said the company was committed to supporting the Co-operative Netball Superleague as well as developing strong commercial links with the Army, which is to continue its partnership with Northern Thunder for the new season.
Northern Thunder ended the 2007-8 season at the bottom of the league table in eighth place, with only one win.
