NETHERLANDS ROSARIO WORLD CUP SQUAD ANNOUNCED

The Netherlands Coach, Herman Kruis has announced his squad to contest the BDO FIH World Championship at Rosario, Argentina at the end of the month. He was not phased by the failure of the team to secure gold recently in Nottingham and we can expect a much sharper team performance and fewer missed opportunities. Not included in the squad are Renske van Geel (Laren), Claire Verhage (SCHC), Vera Vorstenbosch (Den Bosch) and Goalie Inge Vermeulen (SCHC). Like his English equivalent he is going for a mix of experienced hardened internationals and showing his faith in talented youngsters relatively new to the squad but showing such promise. The Squad includes nine senior players who were in the victorious side that beat Australia in the final of the Samsung World Cup, Madrid 2006.
The Netherlands have an outstanding record of World Cup wins (competition founded in 1974) victors in , 1974, 1978, 1983, 1986, 1990, 2006 and were runners up 1981 ( lost on penalty strokes) 1998, and 2002 (lost on strokes) As current pretenders to their throne, Argentina have won it once in Perth 2002 when they beat the Dutch on strokes and were runners up in 1974, 1976 and 1994. Germany and Australia have both won the competition on two occasions. In contrast England previously managed fourth place in Sydney 1990. Argentina, Germany and Netherlands are the only teams to have competed in every World Cup since its inception.
