Natalie Du Toit wins the S9 100m Freestyle final

The second silver medal for the ParalympicsGB swimmers was won by Louise Watkin after an excellent swim in the women's S9 100m Freestyle.

Watkin did not start well and turned in sixth place at the 50m mark but swam impressively over the last 50m to claim her first medal of the 2008 Paralympic Games with an excellent time of 1:03.85.

"I am really over the moon," Watkin said. "I had no idea what to think coming into the final. I just wanted to take it as it came. To get a silver medal and a European medal has left me a bit speechless. At first 50m I thought I had lost it so I pushed on through the final straight and I can't believe I got it.

"My ultimate goal was to get one medal here and I have already done that now which is great."

South Africa's Natalie Du Toit won the gold medal in a new Paralympic record time of 1:01.44. Bronze was won by Stephanie Dixon (Canada) in a time of 1:03.89. Fellow ParalympicsGB swimmer Stephanie Millward finished in fifth place overall with a time of 1:04.52.
