Nagaoka helps Japan in first victory

Japan evened up its record at 1-1 in Pool A of the women’s volleyball tournament at Rio 2016 Olympic Games following a 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-17) over Cameroon on Monday morning at Maracanazinho Stadium.
Miyu Nagaoka spearheaded the Japanese attack with 16 points, included 15 spikes, followed by Saori Kimura and Yuki Ishii who finished with 13 points each.  Cameroon’s captain Christelle Tchoudjang had 12 points in the loss.

Japan outscored Cameroon 45-32 in attacks and 6-2 in aces, while the African side held a slight margin of 8-6 in the blocking category.
 
Cameroon challenged Japan until late in the first set when Kimura’s spike broke a tie at 18-18. Then Ishii and Nagaoka took care of the Japanese offence for the 25-20 result.
 
Aboa Mbeza sparked an early charge by Cameroon that led to a 9-4 advantage for the African side. Unfortunately for Cameroon, they managed to score only 6 more points the rest of the way. Japan won 25-15.
 
Kimura broke a tie at 8-all in the third set and Japan commanded the score for the rest of the set and the 3-0 victory.
