Mavericks overcome The Wildcats in the Fiat Netball Super League

HERTFORDSHIRE MAVERICKS  68-25 GLASGOW WILDCATS

It was mission accomplished for Hertfordshire Mavericks at the Hertfordshire Sports Village on Saturday 7th May, as they romped to victory over Glasgow Wildcats.  The target had been a goal rush to boost their goal average and they came away from the game with a 43 goal win.

The scottish side, playing its second game in three days, was outclassed by Maggie Jackson’s Mavericks who need to have a better goal tally than Northern Thunder at the end of the regular season if the two teams remain locked on points.

After 15 minutes the visitors were left reeling trailing 20-2 and while they improved their hit rate as the game progressed, they failed to match accuracy and consistency of their opponents by some margin.

Maggie Jackson was more than satisfied with the win: “It was imports for us to come back out strong after the prolonged break as we have two hard games later this week.

Mavericks will be in technical training on Monday when Thunder face Bath “we will have plenty to work on. I’m pleased way with the way we attacked.” As for the result of that other match “I hope it’s a really good game for both teams.”

Wildcats head coach Denise Hollands said “We struggled today against a very slick Mavericks side. However we grew quarter by quarter improving in gains and conversions.”

And the Glasgow side’s skipper Claire Brownie was encouraged by her team’s application: “Mavericks proved too strong today, but we stuck at it, and gave it our all for the full 60 mins.”
