Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Marie Ferdinand-Harris, the 1997 Florida High School Player of the Year, decided to play basketball at Louisiana State University (LSU). At LSU Marie was a Kodak All-American, Associated Press Second Team All American, and a First Team All-SEC selection. She is one of only three LSU players to record at least 1,500 points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists and 200 steals in her career.
The WNBA's San Antonio Silver Stars took note of Marie's skills and drafted her as the 8th pick of the 2001 WNBA Draft. In her nine-year career in the WNBA, she is a three-time All-Star and currently holds the San Antonio Silver Star career steals record with 246.
Beyond all her basketball accomplishments, Marie is much more than a basketball player. Marie met her husband Cedrick Harris at LSU (where he helped lead the baseball team to three national titles) and married him several years after. Cedrick and Marie have a son, Cedrick Michael Harris, Jr., born in June 2006. Marie took off the 2006 WNBA season due to her pregnancy and worked out nonstop to get back into shape for the following season.
Fluent in Creole and a huge sushi fan, Marie is also a business owner, owning a bakery named "Sakap Fet" (Creole for "what's up?") in Miami, Florida. Marie has scored 46 points in the last 4 games and just recently scored 21 points in Tuesday night's game against the Phoenix Mercury.
