July 11, 2010 (Providence, R.I.) – Australia’s Kate Major took first at today’s Amica Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island Triathlon. Bozzone, the 2008 Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 winner, claimed the title with an overall time of 4:01:15
Major also saw competition with a strong women’s field including Former Ironman World Champion and last year’s female winner, Michellie Jones, along with New Hampshire native Heather Jackson and Massachusetts resident Caitlin Snow. Jones was first out of the water with New Zealand’s Samantha Warriner exiting just seconds after. Jackson had the fastest bike split of the day, completing the 56 miles in 2:29:53, but the race came down to Major and Snow, who finished a mere 13 seconds apart.

Participants in today’s event ranged in age from 18 to 80 years old and represented 40 states and 20 countries, including more than 100 athletes from the Ocean State.
Amica Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island, with more than 1,200 competitors at the start line, saw pleasant conditions at the start and water temperature at 69.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Finishers were greeted with sunny skies and temperatures in the low to mid 80s.
