The leading ladies duly progressed in style. The fight was for second place and a place in the Preliminary Round. Once again Indian players were to the fore but they experienced mixed fortunes.
Madhurika PATKAR emerged successful but there were defeats for Shamini KUMARESAN and Neha AGGARWAL. The former was beaten by Russia's Irina Ermakova, the latter by Egypt's Sarah HASSAN.The two remain Women's Singles Preliminary Round winners were Hong Kong's NG Wing Nam and Russia's Olga BARANOVA.
