Fabiana Luperini of Team Faren Honda is in form ahead of the Giro d¹Italia Donne.
Faren Honda¹s Mountain Queen Fabiana Luperini courageously broke away in the penultimate stage of the Giro del Trentino and took a solo victory ahead of a star-studded field.
Luperini was active during the entire race, pushing the pace each lap and claiming two of the three sprints on the road today. A small group of four very strong riders formed due to the aggressive riding from Luperini, who was on a mission to prove her form ahead of this year¹s Giro d¹Italia, commencing on the 29 of June.
The group of four consisted of Fabiana Luperini (ITA), Sharon Laws (GBR), Tatiana Guderzo (ITA) and Grete Treier (Estonia) and they worked solidly together to gain a maximum advantage of nearly one minute over the main field.
As the bunch slowly reeled in the break with 15km remaining, Luperini showed experience and class as she attacked her group and went in search of the finish line solo.
Luperini¹s bold attack proved costly for her breakaway companion¹s as they were unable to close the gap to a determined Fabiana Luperini who eventually raised her arms in victory ten seconds ahead of her closest chaser Sharon Laws and, 51 seconds ahead of the remaining bunch!
Fabiana is in her best condition leading into the Giro d¹Italia, a 10 day race commencing on the 29th of June. Whilst Fabiana has won the Giro d¹Italia 5 times, she believes this year¹s course doesn¹t cover enough long climbs for her to take the overall victory in 2012. Fabiana will focus on winning a stage or two!
