Beach volleyball is expected to be one of the premier attractions of the Olympic Games given all the matches will be played at the historical setting of Horse Guards Parade. The event will run from July 28-August 9, with a minimum of 16 games a day during the preliminary rounds ahead of the knockout stages. The volleyball tournament, meanwhile, will take place at Earls Court in the west of the British capital and will run from July 28-August 12 with a minimum of six matches a day during the preliminary rounds. The dates, times and venues of all 26 sports were officially announced earlier this morning at 12.01am. Tickets are due to go on sale from March 15 with registration already open on the London 2012 website. "Publishing the Olympic sports competition schedule means that everyone – athletes, coaches, spectators, broadcasters and everybody who wants to be part of London 2012 – can now start planning their Games," Sebastian Coe, London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) chairman said. Preparations for the Olympic Games have already begun in beach volleyball with Europe, South America and, most recently, Africa completing the sub-zonal phase of the FIVB Continental Cup, the new qualifying system for the competition. The London Olympics will take place from July 27-August 12. |
