Australian ace Sam Shannahan will return to Taren Point next month chasing further glory after confirming that she is a certain starter for the $30,000 Janome NSW Open.
During last year’s NSW Open, Shannahan was in electrifying form, becoming just the 16th woman in history to claim a grand prix singles title, while also reaching the pairs final alongside national teammate Claire Duke.
Despite her incredible run, a scheduling clash with her university exams left the 20-year-old in real jeopardy of failing to return to the scene of her greatest accomplishment, but thanks to some swift negotiating skills, Shannahan is free to line up at Taren Point.
“With the main draw clashing with my university exams I was genuinely concerned that one of the two options would have to make way for the other, but fortunately a compromise has been met,” the Australian ace revealed earlier today in her myBowls blog.
“My university has provided me with some flexibility to complete my exams, while also competing at the NSW Open, which is terrific.
“They have been very supportive of my sporting quests and it’s a real luxury to have that understanding.
“It’s one of my favourite tournaments of the year and Taren Point looks terrific at the moment following its newly completed renovations.”

With entries for the Janome NSW Open closing this afternoon, the final opportunity to take part in the $30,000 grand prix is rapidly evaporating.
With an abundance of qualifying positions up for grabs, the opportunity to test yourself against the best-of-the-best has never been more opportunistic.
In the pairs and fours, 32 teams in the men’s and women’s fields will compete for four of the game’s most cherished titles.
Qualifying will be staged at Taren Point and surrounding clubs on October 3 and 4, with entries closing at 4pm on Friday, September 18.
