CORNING, N.Y., May 25, 2008 – The LPGA Corning Classic has a history of producing Rolex First-Time Winners, and the 30th anniversary of the Tour stop proved no exception as Leta Lindley (73-67-70-67=277, -11) made a six-foot birdie putt on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff against Jeong Jang (71-69-69-68=277) to become the event's ninth first time champion. For Lindley, the win came in her 14th year on Tour and in her 295th start as an LPGA pro, tying Missie McGeorge's record as the third longest time on Tour before reaching the first win.
“I am thrilled. I dreamed about this day for over 13 years, and, gosh, for awhile you kind of wonder if it's ever going to come,” Lindley said. “When it comes down to it, am I going to be good enough to make those clutch putts coming down the stretch or to win on 18. I'm absolutely thrilled. I can't believe I'm living this experience.”
