Lincolnshire pair qualify for Spanish championship matchplay
Curtis Cup player Holly Clyburn and her Lincolnshire colleague, Jess Wilcox, have qualified for the matchplay stages of the Spanish amateur championship at Sherry Golf Jerez, Cadiz.
Holly, from Woodhall Spa, came through the 36-hole qualifying in 25th place after returning scores of two over 74 and 77. She will play Ariane Provot of France in the first matchplay round.
Jess, from Blankney, shot 80 in the first round but battled her way into the matchplay stages with a one-over par 73 in the second. She made the cut on the mark on 153 but took 27th place thanks to her excellent play over the last 18. She now plays another Frenchwoman, Emilie Alonso.
English players who failed to make the cut were: Lucy Williams (Mid-Herts), Charley Hull (Woburn), Emily Taylor (Royal Lytham & St Annes), Elizabeth Mallett (Sutton Coldfield Ladies’), Rebecca Gee (Wellingborough), Lauren Blease (Coombe Hill) and Rachel Drummond (Beaconsfield).
