Loughborough Lightning kick off The Co-operative Netball Superleague season in style later this month at a special launch event hosted at Loughborough University.
The 2009/10 team will be unveiled on Saturday 21 November at the free evening of entertainment featuring a fashion show, dance displays, a fundraising auction, demonstration matches and questions and answer sessions with Lightning’s England international players.
Fans will have the opportunity to meet their Lightning heroes and see them dressed in their party gear as they take to the stage for an exclusive fashion show supported by Matalan and Lightning kit sponsors Samurai. Pupils from Loughborough’s Sacred Heart School and members of the University’s rugby team will also be taking to the stage as part of the show.
After the show, Loughborough Lightning players will perform a quick change into their netball kit as the old girls take on the new crop in a full length head-to-head match.
Head coach and former England captain Olivia Murphy, is considering dusting off her old Lightning kit for the match and hopes to put on an entertaining show for all supporters. She said: “We wanted to arrange a launch event with a difference this year and what better way than for our girls to get dressed up for a fashion show.
“The players are really excited about it all and there’s already some friendly rivalry amongst the team for the old girls v new girls match. We will also be unveiling our squad for the new season, giving supporters the first opportunity to meet our new recruits. We hope the local Loughborough community and netball fans across the region will turn out to support the event.”
The Loughborough Lightning launch takes place at Loughborough University’s Netball and Badminton Centre on Saturday 21 November from 6pm (doors open 5.30pm).
