Acclaimed Singapore fashion designer Jo Soh creates exclusive team uniforms
From 28-30th November at Singapore Island Country Club (SICC), 24 of the world’s top golfers will compete in the fourth edition of the Lexus Cup and they will be dressed from top-to-toe in a range of golf wear created especially for the event by Jo.

“This is a very exciting project for me and I am very privileged to be involved with this prestigious golfing event. I have always had a practical approach to design, and uniforms are an ideal way to express my style and process of creation” said Jo Soh.
The Lexus Cup team uniforms of 2006 and 2007 were designed by Cheryl Horaney of the well-known US label ‘Rock the Green’ and this year it is being brought back home with Jo, who has her own design label called Hansel.
“Golf fashion is continuing to evolve and I wanted to make sure the Lexus Cup uniforms showcased the latest styles and apparel trends on the fairways. It is important that the girls enjoy wearing the outfits and that they also have a unique Lexus Cup touch.
The Lexus Cup is a prestigious women’s team event which began in 2005 and with sanctioning from the Ladies Professional Golfers Association (LPGA) since 2006, it brings the top ranked players to town for three days of exciting competition through foursomes, fourball and singles. The qualifying deadline for the trip to Singapore is the Korea Championship presented by Sema Sports (31 October – 2 November).
With the return of the Lexus Cup to its birth place of Singapore, it was important to give the event a local edge with this design tie-up. Giving thought and attention to elements of the event such as the uniform design is befitting of the stature and quality of the Lexus Cup.
Drawing her inspiration from the golf course landscape, Jo’s designs are based on the lawn striping and undulating lines that appear on them. She has created a variety of designs so the players are united by colour but have the choice of garment styles to suit their own preferences.
Jo explained, “I have opted to use beige – one of Lexus’ colours - in Team International’s collection as this suits their complexion best, and went for blue with Team Asia as this works with their skin tones better.”
Her first taste of sports wear design came at the beginning of the year when she created the team uniforms for the Singapore Disabled Athletic contingent for the ASEAN Para-Games 2008.
The special designs will be finalised by early November and the players will wear the first of their outfits on the first day of practice at the Singapore Island Country Club.
There will certainly be a strong Singaporean influence with lots of local elements as it takes place at the most prestigious and historic golf club in the country and the girls will grace the greens of this championship course with a Singapore swing in their exclusive outfits that will be sure to attract attention from the fans.
