LEN European Nations Trophy Ukraine 22-Switzerland 9

Ukraine condemned Switzerland to the wooden spoon in Group A with a 22-9 victory as their opponents finished bottom of the group, having conceded 67 goals.

Although the first quarter was close, Ukraine got stronger as the game went on and dominated to ease to a comfortable victory.

Whereas Switzerland managed to get on the scoresheet a couple of times every quarter, Ukraine scored at a steady pace and equalled Croatia’s total of 22 which is second only to the Czech’s 23, all put past the Swiss.

Anastasiya Kotova put on a masterful performance, scoring six and assisting many more.  Kotova, who now moves onto 11 overall, was brilliantly supported by Kseniya Kurvicheva and Natalia Kolisnyk who both scored five.

Swiss captain Nadia Knobel could muster four goals of her own but nobody could support her like the Ukrainians supported their main scorer.

Switzerland will want to re-group quickly as they will face Belarus tomorrow in the seventh/eighth placed play off.  Ukraine will go through to the quarter finals tomorrow with their confidence sky-high after their first win of the tournament.
