LEEDS CARNEGIE NAMES NEW DIRECTOR OF NETBALL

Newell, who played in last season's Netball Superleague for Northern Thunder, will coach and manage Leeds Carnegie's Netball Superleague side for the 2007-8 season, as well as directing the University's netball programme.  She will also be charged with developing the Regional Talent Identification system in Yorkshire and Humberside.

Anna played for England for eight years through a number of squads and age groups:  she took part in the 2000 World Youth Championshiops, and has also represented the England Development squad and England's national squad on a tour to Australia and New Zealand.  In a coaching capacity, she has acted as assistant coach to the England U17 and U19 squads and, more recently, travelled to Botswana with the U21 long squad as part of their preparations for the 2009 World Youth Championships.

One of her earliest responsibilities in her new role will be to supervise the trials for the Leeds Carnegie squad for 2007-8.  A screening day is to be held on Sunday 9 September from 11am-3pm, while screening for the Netball Talent League squad will take place on Monday 17 September from 7-10pm.

Trials forms and further information are available from Geraldine Plant ([email protected] or 07824 482619) or Jenny Skelton ([email protected] or 07966 052732).

The Netball Superleague is the leading competition in England, featuring eight regionally based franchise teams.  The 2007-8 season starts on 27 October 2007, and the entire competition will be televised by Sky Sports.
