Korean Kim Joins Gamova in Exclusive 30 point Club

Korean superstar Kim Yeon Koung joined Russian Ekaterina Gamova as the only female players in the history of the Olympic Games to reach the 30-point plateau three times in a single match.
The hard-hitting Korean spiker scored 30 points in her team’s 3-1 victory over Japan in opening day on Saturday.

The feat has been achieved now twelve times by eight female players and Kim is the only one ever to do it in a four-set match with two efforts of that kind.
Kim twice reached the 30-point mark in London 2012 when she had 34 in a 3-1 victory against Serbia and had 32 in a losing five-set contest versus China.
Gamova registered 33 points in a loss to China in Athens 2004 and in the same year she punished Brazil with 32 in a victory over the South American powerhouse. In 2012, she scored 31 in a win against Italy.
Brazilian Mari Steinbrecher owns the all-time record with 37 points in a loss to Russia when the Olympics took place in Athens.

USA’s Danielle Scott was the first women to score 30 or more points since the stats are compiled, when she recorded 30 in a victory over Korea in Sydney 2000.
