Kenya secured a 2007 World Cup berth which is their fifth consecutive African vacancy at the international competitions following their qualification to the 2002 and 2006 World Championships, 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens Olympic Games.
Kenya became the first country ever to win an African cup with a record of being the only team to win all their matches without conceding a set.

Kenya, as new Africa Champion, join Japan (host country) on the starting grid of the FIVB Volleyball World Cup 2007, valid as first Olympic qualification tournament.

Tokyo, Japan, September 10, 2007 - As teams around the world battle for continental supremacy during September, the excitement is building toward the FIVB World Cup 2007.

Not only will you find details of the schedule, venues and history of the World Cup, there will also be interviews with some of the world’s leading players as they attempt to qualify for the elite 12-strong field for the women’s and men’s events.
The women’s World Cup takes place from November 2-16, and the men’s from November 18 to December 2. The top three teams after a gruelling 11-round, four-stage round-robin competition will qualify directly for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

In his welcome message on the World Cup site, FIVB President Dr Ruben Acosta H. says: "The hospitality and the support of the Japanese people, the exhaustive preparations of the Japan Volleyball Association, the invaluable partnership of the host broadcaster Fuji Television Network Inc., the superb stadiums and hotels around the country…the FIVB can always trust and rely on Japan to stage a first class Volleyball show worthy of such a grand occasion."

The President of the JVA, Masao Tachiki, comments: "I am absolutely certain that all the participating teams will show the world top-class volleyball in order to obtain qualification for the Beijing Olympics.
"They will want to win the World Cup with confidence and pride. I would like to recommend you to go to any competition venue and enjoy fantastic and exciting volleyball."
