Nairobi, Kenya, Hosts Kenya, defending champions Algeria and Tunisia all began their 2011 Women’s African Nations Championship campaigns with wins in Nairobi on Wednesday as the tournament kicked off.
Six-times African champions Kenya claimed a straight sets win (25-11, 25- 15, 25-15) over Nigeria in Pool A as Tunisia saw off Botswana 3-1 (25-18, 25-12, 18-25, 25-18) and Algeria beat Senegal 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-22) in Pool B.
Nine teams are participating in the prestigious African championship and competing for the continental berth at the 2011 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup to be held in Japan later this year.
