ASTANA (KNL Leagues) - Irtysh completed their resurgence by clinching the Kazakhstan National League Championship for Women with their third successive win in the Finals series against defending champions Astana Tigers.
Down 2-0 in the best-of-five series, Irtysh battled back, winning Games 3 and 4 62-42 and 76-64 respectively to tie things up at 2-2.
And they completed the improbable comeback with a 71-64 win in Game 5 on the road.
Astana had won the opening two games 69-64 and 65-63.
Angelina Yuskova was undoubtedly the driving force in Irtysh’s triumphant resurgence.
The 21-year-old guard who had 23 and 38 points in Games 3 and 4 respectively, once again trumped her rivals with 35 points and 6 rebounds in the series finale.
Elena Doc was Astana’s highest scorer with 18 points.
